2002 Connecticut Vigils

Detail:                Prayer by Rev George A. Chien [Pastor], Invited speakers followed by a  song.  The vigil will end with a dimming of the Chapel lights, and the extinguishing of each of the 24 candles as each name is read for that person who has died this past year due to anti-transgender hate and prejudice.  There will be an informal social following the event with light refreshments and snacks and a showing of a brief video "In Memory of Rita".  The vigil is non-denominational, open to all.

Other CT Day of Remembrance Events

Wyndham HS, Willimantic  

Brandon Cardet and their GSA is organizing an event at the Windham High School in Willimantic, CT. According to Brandon, the plans are:

"This is what we have decided to do @ the high school level-I'm going to do chalking and inside the chalking have information about a person who has been murdered this year. Also, we are going to do a moment of silence in the morning and a follow up after school where we will have an open mic and discuss the days events."

 PFLAG/Hartford

 Since November 20th is the same evening that they hold their monthly meeting, the group will have a single lit candle and do a reading of the twenty four names of those who have died this last year due to anti-transgender Hate and Violence.  They meet every third Wednesday, 7:30 PM at Immanuel Church, 10 Woodland Street, Hartford. 

Hamden Hall, Hamden, CT

The Gay/Straight Alliance at Hamden Hall [Hamden, CT] is planning a presentation next Wednesday in their assembly. At the presentation Barbara will explain what it means to be transgendered, and then each of the students will give an account of a different person who has been murdered since the last Day of Remembrance. We will also give out ribbons the next day to our school community in remembrance of all of the people who have been so tragically murdered.

Glastonbury HS, Glastonbury, CT

Gay/Straight Alliance forum at Glastonbury High School [Glastonbury, CT], for transgender and straight-ally high school students and faculty. Come to discuss issues including harassment, discrimination, or if you need some emotional support. We're always looking to get as big a turnout as possible, and everyone always has a chance to say what's on their mind. We can also help you get your own GSA started. Goes from 7-9 PM at 330 Hubbard Street, Glastonbury, CT.
