Forum on Gender Identity and Expression Huge Success

On June 12th the Connecticut Women's Education and Legal Fund [CWEALF] and the Connecticut TransAdvocacy Coalition [CTAC] co-sponsored a public educational forum on Gender Identity and Expression.  The forum was well attended.  The panelists were Jennifer Levi, Senior Staff Attorney with the Gay and Lesbian Advocates and Defenders, Beth Hamilton a queer multi-issue organizer and activist, Kristopher a TransActivist and Jerimarie Liesegang, Director of CTAC.

The event was sponsored as a result of the current initiative to include both Disability and Gender Identity and Expression within the Connecticut Hate Crime Statutes.  The goal of the forum was to engage the public in a dialogue around the issues and definitions of Transgender, Gender Identity and Expression as well as anti-transgender hate crimes and bias.  The forum was held at the Wesleyan University Exley Science Center and the turnout nearly filled the auditorium.  Many questions were exchanged and discussed between the panelists and audience and the dialogue could have gone on for hours.

This event will be one in a series of Educational Forums on the Transgender Community, its issues, people, legislation, services, etc.  If your organization would like to be a co-sponsor for one of these forums, please contact us at advocacy@transadvocacy.com.

Thank you so very much to CWEALF, the panelists and audience for making this event a true success. And the first of many statewide transgender educational forums in Connecticut!
