NOTICES

It is not difficult to ensure safe shelter for transgender people. Here are some guidelines [Click to view guidelines].

HIV/AIDS and Hurricane Katrina...
From Shawn at CARC ~ Some of you have called to ask if there is a central place in CT organizing around assisting people with HIV/AIDS who have been impacted by hurricane Katrina.  CARC is happy to take on a part of that role in getting information out to all of you.  Please pass this along to your lists as well. [Click to view details].

National LGBT Youth and Family Groups Establish “Hurricane Katrina LGBT Relief Fund”...

Housing for GLBT homeless from Katrina...
(From Cathy Platine http://gallae.com) The TransFM internet radio network is doing a fund raiser all next week for homeless victims of Katrina and we are coordinating efforts since the Maetreum of Cybele is 5013(c) already and we have bed space available..........not to put to fine a point on it, but we need to take care of our own because historically we know that others won't. While I applaud efforts by MoveOn.org and others, this is something we need to do for ours as well to demonstrate that we are willing to do so. The christian right is quite quick to claim moral high ground in charity, they pull it on pagans all the time.  Our sisters and brothers need us and it is past time we demonstrate we can pull together for each other in times of need.

Trans Medical Referral List..
The CT TransAdvocacy Coalition in collaboration with the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective is preparing an update to CTAC's Trans Services Provider list. If you have a General Practictioner, Therapist, Psychiatrist, OB/GYN, Electrologist, Dentist, etc please send us the information so that we may add it to this comprehensive referral list. Send the information by email to transservices@transadvocacy.com, call us at (860) 983-8139 or mail us at PO Box 330304, West Hartford, CT 06133-0304.

Trans Legislation in Connecticut...
The Connecticut Hate Crime Network that successfully passed the 2004 Hate Crime Bill that provided protections for both "disability" and "gender identity or expression" is now working on inclusion of protections for "gender identity or expression" within the states non-discrimination statutes. This year we will be focusing on grassroots organizing, establishing legislative language, education and outreach to both allies, organizations and legislators. Stay tuned to this newsletter for further developments and plans around this critically important effort. As a start with the grassroots organizing we have created a yahoo group to establish community dialogue, meeting schedules, outreach efforts, etc. To join the group simply go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/transadvocacy and then select join the group. If you have any questions or concerns regarding how to join the group, about this legislative effort, how your organization can join or whatever drop an email to info@transadvocacy.com
